Perched on a narrow mountain ridge, Haputale offers some of the most spectacular, sweeping views of the southern plains of Sri Lanka. On a clear day, the view stretches all the way to the southern coastline. Haputale is less commercialized than its neighbours, providing a deeply authentic and tranquil hill country experience.
The town is surrounded by some of the island's finest tea estates. The most famous attraction is Lipton's Seat, the historic viewpoint where Sir Thomas Lipton used to survey his vast tea empire. Visitors can also explore the magnificent Adisham Bungalow, a Tudor-style country house run by Benedictine monks, and hike through the misty landscapes of the region.
